Time Began in a Garden

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!
















A Declaration:


When in the Course of human events it beomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

A Question:

On the south banks of Washington's Tidal Basin, Thomas Jefferson still speaks:

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?"

A Prayer:

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her,
And guide her
Through the night
With the Light from above.

From the mountains,
To the prairies,
To the ocean
White with foam:
God Bless America,
My home sweet home.

I was eagerly anticipating an Independence Day message, and was rewarded! Thanks for the inspiration.

Jefferson's question is a good one...certainly the founders were confident that God was guiding them and they were motivated and driven to greatness by that.

In today's America, the people have many different perspectives on who their God really is. Each of those viewpoints needs to be protected and respected, as our country now tries to do. In doing so, I think the government has gone too far in taking out of public view all references to God, whosever that should be. But still, we have the greatest place to live.

I would want to just listen.
