SHE'LL BE COMIN' ROUND THE MOUNTAIN
On Sunday, Debi, Curtis, Brad and I took a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad. The other folks went for a day on Lake Powell (their pictures tomorrow.) We had a grand time weaving in and around the canyon. The views were spectacular, and the history and folklore as presented by our very amiable and knowledgeable tour guide made for a beautiful afternoon. My maternal Granddad was a railroad man. As a fireman, he shoveled coal for many years, and was eventually made an engineeer. A happy day indeed!. He passed away at an early age (55). I was just a little girl, but I remember his funeral. Someone sang "Life Is Like A Mountain Railroad" It made quite an impression on me and I've never forgotten.
Life is like a mountain railroad, with an engineer that's brave; We must make the run successful, from the cradle to the grave;
Watch the curves, the fills, the tunnels; never falter, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Chorus: Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
You will roll up grades of trial; you will cross the
bridge of strife; See that Christ is your Conductor on this lightning train of life;
Always mindful of obstruction. do your duty, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
You will often find distractions; look for storms of wind and rain; On a fill, or curve, or trestle, they will almost ditch your train;
Put your trust alone in Jesus; never falter, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
As you roll across the trestle, spanning Jordan's swelling tide, You behold the Union Depot into which your train will glide;
There you'll meet the Superintendent, God the Father, God the Son,
With the hearty, joyous, plaudit, "Weary pilgrim, welcome home!"
God bless you and keep you.
Tomorrow: Fun on the water!

That's a nice song. I didn't realize your Grandfather Holmes passed at 55. Sounds like he worked hard, and I'm sure he worshiped faithfully.
What a treasure - All the memories you have of your Grandparents and Mother/Father.

Your doing good...
As I have heard many times in the past..."looks like a good time was had by all"!
More to come...I'm sure

Thanks for telling of your experiences and for posting the gospel song, "Life Is Like a Mountain Railroad." Small bit of trivia: Today is the 66th anniversary of the death of Charles Tillman, the man who wrote the tune for the song. You can find out a bit more about him on my blog today, Wordwise Hymns.
