MORNING ON THE HILL - PREFACE

THE HILL IS A NEIGHBORHOOD: It has been referred to as "an unwalled inner-city" with a boundary of Manchester on the north, Kingshighway on the east, Hampton on the west and Columbia/Southwest on the south.

THE HEART OF THE HILL IS ST. AMBROSE CHURCH: It stands at the very center of all else that happens here. My home is across the street from the church and the school.
THE SOUL OF THE HILL IS IT'S PEOPLE. WHO THEY ARE AND HOW THEY LIVE: Descendants of Italian immigrants, they are a strong, faith-filled people. They will tell you themselves that much of how they live is somehow connected to food.

These people have welcomed me here with more hospitality and friendship than could ever be imagined.

THE ECONOMY OF THE HILL IS TO BE FOUND IN IT'S FAMOUS RESTAURANTS, BAKERIES, AND GROCERY STORES:

One can see the relationship of good food and The Hill beautifully illustrated in Eleanore Berra Marfisi's wonderful book , "THE HILL" with it's subtitle, 'IT'S HISTORY - IT'S RECIPES"; They simply go together!

I am within walking distance of over fifteen restaurants, four bakeries and three grocery stores.

So my morning strolls truly do embrace these three elements of this neighborhood.

Be back tomorrow: hope you will be too.

Thought for today: "...in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:6

I love this....feel like I am spending every morning on a stroll with my mom...who could ask for anything more....you have always had a gift for seeing things that the rest of us overlook.

I just wish you were enjoying your 'new' life a little more...hehe

Whoa! I'm exhausted! That was a lot of ground to cover in one morning! HaHa!
Let's make it a goal to eat at all 15 restaurants! We'll walk to each one (real eating--no blog eating!).
You described the Hill quite well! You know my son is one of the Hill gang now!!! The north side, don't ya know?
