I really like the quote from 8/1/1858 - "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master". Kind of like "do unto others as you would have others do unto you". I never have been able to understand how people could bull whip, hang, drag behind a horse or truck, other people without knowing they would not want that pain for themselves.
Makes my cry when I hear the ugly news reports of what people do to others, especially to children.
