THE STAFF OF LIFE

Every morning you can smell the wonderful aroma of the bread baking in any one of the three bakeries within 2 blocks of my home.

When we (Jerry and me) walk really early, we see this view through the windows at Amighetti's.

On this (and most mornings), the bakers were sitting outside waiting for the bread to rise.

That's flour on the window.
Someday I hope to get up the courage to ask if I can go inside and take a picture.

TFT: Jesus said, "I Am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never hunger, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35Posted by Picasa

THE "TAIL"OF TWO BUNNIES

"Do you think we can make it across the street?"

"No, I really think we had better go back home."

"Well, maybe we can stop for just a little while to nibble on these flowers."

"You go ahead, I just have to scratch a bit behind the ear."

"My goodness, this is good, but I really think we'd better hurry."

(please scroll down)

continued:

"My, this is good!"

"Come on now, we have to get back!"

"Couldn't we just talk this over?"

"No!, we have to go home now!"
"Oh, all right, if you say so."

SIDEWALK DELIVERY

If you ever wondered what goes into that delicious Alfredo sauce at Zia's restaurant, this will be a clue to it's great taste!

Deliveries are just "dropped off" every morning.
This much "heavy cream" will surely last them a day or two!

This is one of my favorite restaurants on The Hill. And only two blocks down my street. I love it here!

FOR 27 YEARS

A "regular" in the back to school drama is this gentleman who has been directing traffic and children for more than a quarter of a century at the corner of Wilson and Marconi

Every morning before the children who walk to school begin to arrive, he takes his place at this stop sign on the southeast corner and begins to watch in three directions.
When he views them in the distance, he moves to this spot on the edge of the curb.

Then, when he sees some youngsters coming on the north side of the street, he steps off the curb and slowly walks across to that side.

He uses his cane to both stop the cars and direct the children.

(please scroll down.)

continued;

And then he walks slowly back to the south side.
The children all know that they DO NOT STEP INTO THE STREET until he has directed them to do so!

And sometimes he even has to use his whistle to see that" little old ladies" get across safely as they head home wth what could be some fresh baked bread. (maybe he was a Boy Scout a long time ago. )

He is at his post every school day each morning and each afternoon all year long, no matter what the weather. You could set your clock by when he shows up!

I believe he is one of the best lessons these youngsters can learn in their 8 years of schooling at St. Ambrose. A real role model!

The Hill is such a wonderful place!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

I always look forward to seeing the children coming back to school. (I'm sure this happiness isn't shared by all.)

For another who seems to be pretty happy about it, click onto ladybirdinagarden link...entry on Aug. 22

Isn't she lovely?

First day involves Moms ...
and Dads...

But the "old timers" just go it alone.
The bookbag looks awfully heavy to me.
I know Iwill enjoy another year of watching the activity across the street.

Let's all say a little prayer for the youngsters, the teachers, and everyone involved in helping our children grow up to be the best that they can be...body, mind and spirit.
Thank you God that you hear our prayers.

THE NEW PLANT

To go with the new chair...
Isn't it amazing the amount of color just in foliage?

TFT: "God is our refuge and strength,

an ever present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the sea,

though the waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging."

THE NEW CHAIR

It has been said that every room needs a touch of red.
Well, the parlor now qualifies!

So far, everyone seems to like it.
I know I do...and once again, "they" say that that's all that really matters.

Come see for yourself what you think.

REACHING FOR THE SKY

This sunflower is about 10 feet tall and is lemon yellow.
They are so much fun.

GORGEOUS

These sunflowers are in Jerry's front yard.

Sometimes they look almost black.

Sometimes a very dark maroon.
They certainly are beautiful.

TFT: "Do not withold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give tomorrow" when you now have it with you."

THE TALE OF A FIG TREE

There are a lot of fig trees on the hill.
Jerry tells me that it was very common practice to construct a box around the tree with hinged sides and a removable top.

Then in the fall, the tree is trimmed and the box closed up.

TFT: "Watch out for false prophets...By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?
Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit...Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." Matthew 7: 15-20Posted by Picasa
